Ant Control – Residential Property in Saskatoon, SK

A homeowner in Saskatoon contacted us after weeks of battling an ant infestation in her kitchen and backyard patio. Despite trying store-bought sprays and traps, the ants kept reappearing—especially around the sink area and along window edges. She was concerned the ants may have nested inside the walls. That’s when she reached out to Pestronix for a long-term solution.

Inspection & Assessment:

Our licensed technician conducted a full property inspection, both indoors and outdoors. Inside the house, ants were trailing from the kitchen window sill toward food cabinets. Outside, small ant hills and trails were visible near the foundation and garden bed. We quickly identified the culprit: Odorous House Ants, known for nesting inside walls and under floorboards.

Moisture around the kitchen sink and improperly sealed window frames were major attractants. The ants were entering through microscopic cracks along the baseboards and exterior siding. A thermal scan helped us detect a high-activity zone behind the drywall adjacent to the sink, indicating a satellite nest.

Treatment Process:

We used a slow-acting non-repellent ant gel bait placed discreetly inside wall voids, under the sink, along window edges, and near entry points. This bait is specifically designed to be shared within the colony, killing the queen and eliminating the nest from within.

To prevent further intrusion, we applied a perimeter spray around the exterior foundation and sealed visible cracks in the siding. Additionally, we used a fine dust formulation in wall outlets and baseboard voids to reach ants that may have bypassed the bait.

Post-Treatment Care:

We advised the homeowner not to clean the baited areas for 10-14 days to allow the ants to fully carry the treatment back to the colony. She was also advised to fix the leaky faucet and add weather stripping to the kitchen window, reducing attractants and future entry points.

Follow-Up & Outcome:

Within 10 days, ant activity dropped significantly. By our 3-week follow-up visit, there were no visible trails indoors or outside. The client was thrilled and has since enrolled in our seasonal pest maintenance plan to prevent future infestations.

Client Testimonial:

“I couldn’t believe how quickly they fixed the problem. The ants were driving me crazy, but Pestronix found the source and handled everything professionally. I sleep better now, knowing it’s taken care of.”

Ants are persistent because they leave behind invisible pheromone trails that lead others directly to food or water sources. Even if you clean visible ants, these trails remain. Unless the colony especially the queen is eliminated, ants will return. That’s why professional treatment targets both the visible and hidden aspects of the infestation.

In our region, the most common types include pavement ants, carpenter ants, and odorous house ants. Each species behaves differently: for example, carpenter ants can damage wood structures, while pavement ants tend to invade kitchens. Our technicians identify the species before applying a customized treatment.

Yes, our products are formulated for safe use in sensitive areas like kitchens and food-prep zones when applied by trained professionals. We use baits and non-repellent treatments that ants carry back to the colony, ensuring targeted control without contaminating surfaces.

To help keep ants away after treatment, follow these preventive tips: Seal cracks and entry points around windows, doors, and foundations Wipe down surfaces regularly to remove food residue and pheromone trails Store food in airtight containers and take out trash frequently Fix leaks or standing water, as ants are attracted to moisture We also offer seasonal ant prevention plans to stop infestations before they start.
